Mrs. Mary "Sue" Parker

Ms. Mary “Sue” Parker, age 87, of Hickory Circle, Union Grove, Alabama passed away at her residence on Friday, August 2, 2024. She was the daughter of Herman Harvey Light and Rosie Lee Briscoe Light. She was born and raised in the Ryan Community, relocated to Ohio for a short time, and eventually found her way back to Marshall County, AL. She and her husband, Robert Dean Parker (DOD 1/31/2018) called Hickory Circle home for over 60 years. Sue was of the Baptist faith and was an active member of Brindlee Mountain Baptist Church. Sue’s family and her Church were very important to her. She loved the Lord and believed in the power of prayer. Sue was service oriented and supported her friends, family and church by providing help and meals whenever she was aware of a need. She was often on the phone checking on her loved ones and those on her prayer list. During her leisure time she could often be found enjoying her beloved coffee while reading her beloved novels, enjoying Atlanta Braves baseball, or maybe out digging in her garden. Sue, also enjoyed visiting the beach where she could sit for hours enjoying the sights and sounds. Family members Sue has left behind to cherish their memories include her daughters, Becky Parker (Johnny Rutherford) and Debbie Long (Ken); grandchildren, Lindsey Phillips and John Rutherford, brother, John Douglas Light; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding Sue in death include her husband, Dean Parker and her parents, Herman and Rosie Lee Light. Services in order to remember and honor Sue will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Brindlee Mountain Baptist Church (north of Morgan City). Friends and guest will gather from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Mylon Metcalf officiating. Pallbearers escorting Sue to her final resting place in Mt. Olive Cemetery (south of Morgan City) will be Joey Light, Brandon Joey Light, Steven Wray, Hunter Wray, Johnny Light and Christopher McCartney. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Rutherford, Ken Long, John Rutherford and Wayne Whisenant. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to Shepherd’s Cove hospice in Sue’s memory.
