Zelma Jean Brooks

It is with deep sorrow and in loving memory that we announce the passing of Ms. Zelma Jean Brooks, age 88, our cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; who went home to join her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Thought our hearts ache with loss we rejoice knowing she is now resting in the arms of Jesus, free from pain and surrounded by heavenly peace. She was a devoted follower of Christ, whose life reflected His love in everything she did. Her faith was the steady foundation of her days guiding her in prayer, in kindness and in service to others. She was a woman of quiet strength, gentle wisdom and unwavering devotion to her family. She spent the majority of her life as a resident of the Morgan City/Union Hill community. Zelma spent her career as a highly respected and dedicated employee of Sanmina-SCI before enjoying her well-earned retirement. She was devoted to her faith and cherished each and every moment spent with her church family at Highland Baptist Church. She spent her days reading her Bible, re-reading her previously saved greeting cards and reminiscing by looking through her collection of family pictures. She was known for keeping a tidy house and continually sweeping her floors. Zelma is survived by a loving and supportive family including her son, Bryan B. Brooks (Sheila); daughters, Loretta G. Hayes (Roger), Teresa McDonald, Patricia Larie Briscoe (Ronald Miller), and Rita Arnold (Jim); sisters, Betty Jo Reliford, Audrey Tapscott, Katie Sue Fellows, (Tom) Paulette Wilson, and Barbara Gail Shuman; and seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, B. Herman Brooks; parents, Buster and Lillie Mae Terrell; daughter, Rhonda Marie Brooks; grandson, Derrick Sean Briscoe; brothers, Tom Terrell, Terry Terrell, Perry Terrell and John Robert Terrell; sisters, Mable King, and Lorene DeFlippo. Services for Zelma will include a visitation on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Brindlee Mountain Chapel. The funeral service will be 2:00pm on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Highland Baptist Church. Brother Eldridge Criscoe will be officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Morgan County. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
